Airworthiness Directive
A mandatory instruction from a regulator addressing an unsafe condition, which removes the operator's discretion about whether to comply.
Definition
What Airworthiness Directive Means
Where a service bulletin is the manufacturer's recommendation, an airworthiness directive is the regulator's requirement. Compliance is not optional and is recorded.
For publications that means the documentation has to support proving compliance, not merely describing the task, which puts the burden on revision currency and on evidence of who was served what.
